Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine Artist Spotlight: ICHIRAKU STUDIO Reimagines Samurai Art with a Contemporary Edge

Meet ichiraku of ICHIRAKU STUDIO, Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine’s latest featured artist, whose bold illustrations fuse samurai spirit and ukiyo-e tradition with a contemporary edge. Based in Japan, ichiraku shares the nearly two-decade creative journey that brought his style full circle, and why Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine is a natural canvas for his work.

From Samurai Sketches to a Signature Style: A 20-Year Creative Evolution

ichiraku first picked up a pen at 20, sketching samurai and ninja with dreams of becoming an internationally recognized artist. By his mid-twenties, however, reality nudged him in a different direction: professional illustration work in Japan, shaped by an American-influenced and commercial style. The work paid the bills, but it never felt truly his own.

“Around the age of 35, I realized that I wanted to return to the style I truly loved,” ichiraku reflects. That realization marked a turning point. He shed the commercial aesthetic and returned to the Japanese cultural roots that first sparked his passion. Today, ICHIRAKU STUDIO explores the theme of “old yet new,” reimagining ukiyo-e and traditional woodblock aesthetics through a modern lens. His work is shared across Instagram and his official website, with an online merchandise shop in the works.

Why Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine?

For ichiraku, the collaboration carried personal meaning. As a dedicated gamer and longtime Razer user, he saw partnering with Razer as more than just a creative opportunity.

“Being invited to collaborate by a brand I genuinely use and respect was a great honor,” he says. “Joining Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine felt like a very natural and exciting opportunity for me.”

Intuitively Cool: ICHIRAKU STUDIO’s Curated Axon Series

ichiraku does not overthink his art. His first Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine series, Ukiyo-e Ninja Chronicles, is less about an overarching narrative or concept statement, and more about instinct: visual that strikes at first glance.

“My work is generally not driven by deep or complex narratives,” he explains. “I focus on creating visuals that feel intuitively cool and beautiful. For the Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine series, I selected pieces that best represent this feeling and that I personally feel most connected to.”

What’s Next?

While ichiraku has yet to upload new content to Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine, he is already looking ahead. “Once new works are completed, I would be very happy to upload them to Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine,” he shares. Fans can expect more bold, contemporary Japanese-inspired wallpapers in the future.
